    This month we take a look at the Rampion Developments in Coastal West Sussex...







    Rampion Wind Farm

    One of the most eagerly awaited milestones for the Rampion
    project was achieved in March, the installation of the first
    offshore wind turbine. The turbine, located approximately 14
    kilometres from shore and visible on the horizon, is the first of
    the 116 MHI Vestas V112-3.45 megawatt (MW) models that will
    together make up the south coast’s first wind farm.

    The installation of turbines will carry on from now until late 2017,
    when all the turbines are expected to be in place.

    This type of sustainable energy fits with the UK Governments Approach to Global Goals for Sustainable Development which was released in March 2017. 

    Major facelift for Shoreham Beach gateway
    The Ferry Road entrance to Shoreham Beach Local Nature Reserve will receive a much-needed facelift after Rampion agreed to fund a landscaping scheme to enhance this important footpath, which directly links Shoreham Town Centre to the beach via the pedestrian ferry bridge. The work will aim to ensure beachgoers have a positve welcome as they arrive at the beach, with a view of the wind farm straight ahead.

    UPDATE - 1.09pm 12th June 2017

    As an update on the situation at Rabbit Waste Management the EA have given approval for some of the extinguished material and wood to be temporarily stored on an adjacent site to give the fire services adequate space at Rabbits facility to continue their work.

     

    We can confirm that a fire broke out at our facility in Lancing in the early hours of the morning on Sunday 11th June

    Nobody has been injured and the company’s emergency procedures were followed by onsite staff.

    The Fire service attended and brought the fire under control and will continue to stay onsite until they are satisfied the fire is completely out and there is no chance of it reigniting.

    We would like to thank the fire service for their rapid response in bringing the situation under control.

    We would like to apologise to other business on the Business Park for any inconvenience caused

    On the 18th June us three have decided to have a leisurely bike from London to Brighton, gonna be easy right!

    We would very much appreciate any donation you can make be it how little or big.

    We raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!

    Greater Brighton building a bright new future for the construction trade 


    The next generation of construction workers are set for a bright future thanks to the work of the Greater Brighton Economic Board (GBEB).

    Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, decorators and plasterers are among the trades to be taught at the new £9 million Trades and Construction Centre in east Brighton.

    The building has been made possible by local growth deal funding, secured by Greater Brighton through the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, as part of a drive to boost skills in the wider area.

    Ahead of the hub being opened to students in September, GBEB chairman Dan Humphreys was given a tour of the site in Wilson Avenue by Nick Juba, CEO of Greater Brighton Metropolitan College (the MET).

    Speaking after the visit, Cllr Humphreys, who is also leader of Worthing Borough Council, said:

    “Greater Brighton was formed three years ago as local authorities, businesses and education providers realised we could do more by working together.

    “We want to combine our skills and resources to boost the local economy, boost jobs, boost productivity and boost quality of life for people living across the region.

    “This amazing new centre is a perfect example of what difference Greater Brighton can make, giving people the skills to thrive in the 21st century economy.”

    The centre is just one of a number of projects which has received support from the GBEB.

    Cllr Humphreys heard how trades were previously taught on three different sites at City College Brighton & Hove before the further education college merged with Northbrook in Worthing and Shoreham to form the MET.

    The £9 million of funding secured from the LEP allowed the construction of a new hub in east Brighton to expand the college’s courses in construction and trades.

    The hub will be a base for 500 students a year across the Greater Brighton area, which stretches from Worthing across to Newhaven, Brighton up to East Grinstead. Students and apprentices from Worthing will continue to be able to access local construction courses at other MET campuses in the Greater Brighton region.

    External construction work was completed in April, a week ahead of schedule.

    Those at the college are now working with students and staff to develop a kit list to ensure it is fully kitted out in time for the new autumn intake.

    Cllr Humphreys also heard how the development was one that was literally created in the Greater Brighton region: Sussex-based HNW Architects designed the new building, while property consultancy practice NorthGates, which work from an office just outside Shoreham, oversaw the project management.

    Mr Juba, CEO of the MET, said:

    “I want to say thank you to the Greater Brighton Economic Board and the local enterprise partnership for all their support.

    “I am a board member of both and being involved in both of those organisations has given the MET a chance to thrive while thinking about how we organise our courses and provision to support local communities

    “That investment that both organisations have made in this facility is very much appreciated and I know our students will be saying the same thing.”

    Tim Loughton - General Election 2017

    As I am sure you only too aware, the Prime Minister has called a general election to be held on 8th June. Parliament will be dissolved at midnight tonight so today is my last day as a Member of Parliament for the duration of the campaign.

    After today I will be putting myself forward as the Conservative Party candidate. I apologise in advance for the avalanche of campaign literature you are likely to receive from me and other candidates.

    Whilst I will be spending most of the next five weeks out knocking on doors, my office will still be able to take up urgent constituency cases. My House of Commons office will be closed and I will be operating full time out of the constituency office at: 88a High Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 5DB.
