Russell New hosts second 'Trustees Week'

The end of this month sees the second ‘Trustees Week’ and we will again be helping our charity clients and contacts with their Trustee recruitment.

If you are curious about the role of a charity trustee or wish to consider becoming one – why not come along to our relaxed wine reception to find out more.

Our event is taking place at our offices in The Courtyard at 4.30pm on 3 November. The idea of the evening is for you to hear a short presentation on the role of trustees and then to meet a few charities who are currently recruiting Trustees.

Each of the charities present will speak for five minutes to give you an idea of their work and if you are interested to learn more, without obligation, or possibly to volunteer your services as a trustee, there will be ample opportunity to chat while we serve wine and canapés for an hour or so after the presentations.  We anticipate that the reception will end around 7.30 pm.

Charities currently attending cover a wide range of activities, helping young people with difficulties community interpreting, translation and communication services, helping children in Africa, community training, residential and nursing care for older people, supporting the resettlement offender in the community and an independent school.   Although these charities may not be based locally to you, provided you are comfortable with the location for travel to trustee meetings, you do not necessarily need to reside here yourself.

We very much hope that you will consider joining us.  You are welcome to bring a guest or to pass this invitation on to any of your friends and family who may be interested to learn more about becoming a Trustee.

RSVP by 27 October to Natalie Wiggins by phone on 01903 816699, by post or by email to  Natalie@russellnew.com   Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so please reply quickly.

Please note this venue is on the 1st floor where access is via stairs only.

Last year’s Worthing Business Awards was a prestigious event that showcased business talent in Worthing and provided lots of positive press for the winners, sponsors and the town.

This year’s black tie awards ceremony will be presented by Fred Dineage, on the 8th October at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing.  This is the first time the awards will encompass business talent across the whole of Adur and Worthing and we welcome your company’s participation. Whether your company would like to compete in one of the seventeen categories or be featured as a sponsor, either way, this is a great way to publicise your company.

Please click here to view a list of award categories and click here for an outline of the sponsorship package. To self nominate your business please visit: www.jpsouthevents.co.uk/?event=wgbusawards2011-html

The Herald will now be running weekly press to highlight the nominated companies and feature the category sponsors.

The last remaining project of the Lancing Business Park BID as set out in the Business Plan 2008 – 2013 to be fulfilled is the Access project which is all about the direction signs around the park and inconsiderate vehicle parking.

West Sussex County Council highways have already carried out an assessment of the parking restrictions on the park and the revised orders have now been agreed by council.  Yellow lines will be appearing on the roads soon although we are hoping that the roads will be resurfaced prior to the lines being painted.  This leaves the issues surrounding directional information and making it easier for clients, customers, visitors and delivery companies to find their way quickly and easily to their destination.  Read more...

This message has been sent by PCSO Nicola Burstow and advises on crimes carried out recently on Northbrook Trading Estate.

There were approximately 6 units either broken into and cash/laptops stolen or costly damage caused by the offenders attempting to break in. There is concern that there are several business parks in the area that could be their next target.

The method of entry has been to cut the BT wires in manholes outside the estate, which disable the alarms to the units. They then use an item, commonly a brick, to smash windows of the units.

The following security steps should be taken where possible

    • Ensure CCTV is up and running effectively
    • Do not keep large sums of money on site over night
    • Do not leave laptops or other valuable items on display in offices.
    • Arrange for BT alarms to be diverted to mobile phones in the event of a power cut.
    • Inform security of recent breaks and MO in order for them be more vigilant.
    • Advise any staff working late at the office to report anything suspicious to the Police immediately.
    • Secure any items of value, especially metal piping and copper, if they need to be left outside for any period of time
    • Security mark valuables - if found can then be reunited with their owner.

We are pleased to advise that the installation of the gas main has now been completed. The road surface in Western Road adjacent to Winston Road will be re-instated today and tomorrow (2nd/3rd June)  and the temporary traffic lights will be removed either Sunday or at the very latest Monday 6th June. Unfortunately the temporary traffic lights will once again be present by the bridge in Western Road to allow for the old gas supply to be "capped off" but the good news is they should only be there for 2 to 3 days. This will complete the gas installation works and the contractors will be moving permanently off site following this work.

The Ride Leadership Award is an interactive and practical 2-day accredited
course that introduces you to the basics of leading rides. Day 1 gives you the
theory and practical skills to lead group rides. Day 2 enables you to effectively
navigate and route plan. There are practical cycling sessions during the
training and you will need to provide a cycling helmet and a roadworthy bike
(one that can be ridden both on-road and traffic free such as a Hybrid bike is
preferable, but any bike will suffice). We are looking for individuals who are confident about riding in traffic and want to encourage more adults to take cycling up. Download more information here
