For those who have headed down Peter Road recently you may have noticed we have a new addition to the LBP Community!

Please meet the very pretty Shuna the Sheep.

Shuna was a charity donation to cancer through Martlets, from the estate of Una Walker who sadly passed away in August 2023, organised by her son Kenny Walker.

Kenny works for Tri-Fab who are based in Marlborough Road, Commerce Way and Peter Road.

Shuna has been a long while in waiting, whilst a steel frame was embedded into concrete underground to secure her in place and now she is watched closely by both Tri-Fab's and LBP's CCTV.

Kenny and his family derived Shuna's name from a merging Shaun the Sheep and their Mum's name Una.

This lovely memorial has been specifically positioned using grid points, so that her eyes are pointing exactly towards Una's hometown of Glasgow and where Kenny grew up.

LBP would like to thank the Kenny and his family for sharing Shuna with us and to encourage anyone that needs a moment, to please feel free to join Shuna on the bench just next to her.

Please could everyone help to keep Shuna safe and let LBP know if you see anything of concern.

    Many thanks.

LBP would like to thank West Sussex Highways for confirming final budget approval for their 2024/25 Highway Work Programme, which includes full resurfacing of the following public highways on the park:

    • Commerce Way
    • Marlborough Road
    • Chartwell Road
    • Spencer Road
    • Blenheim Road

The full LBP resurfacing works have been designed to improvement vehicle and cycling safety across the park by repairing the recurring potholes, failing joints seals and edges, and resolving the plating issues.

West Sussex Highways has also addressed the BID's concerns regarding the longevity of the proposed works, by ordering leveling works and two layers of high-spec surfacing, which has been found to be much more resistant to HGV movements than regular tarmac.

Levelling Works are due to commence on 12th May with several Sunday Road Closures and the Resurfacing Works have been booked for the Sunday 25th August 2024 with a Full Park Closure.

On Friday the 15th March Tim Loughton MP joined LBP, in welcoming Lisa Maddison-Brown from UK Export Finance and Rob Lewtas from the Department of Business and Trade (DBT), at LBP's free UK Export Breakfast.

LBP are very grateful to Phil Kennedy from Eschmann Technologies Ltd for hosting the breakfast on the second floor of Eschmann House, in their currently available 4,747sqft office suite (with great facilities).

Businesses were treated to Iagos Cafe's hot bacon baps whilst they mingled first thing.

Tim made the introductions, followed by Lisa who explained the wealth of grants, support and expertise which UK Export Finance are happy to provide, to help businesses take their first steps into exporting, or to expand their current export operations.

To view Lisa's presentation please click here

Rob then gave a great account of the positives and pitfalls of a range of exports markets, what to consider and how to effectively reach your target market.

Businesses soaked up Rob's experiences, raising several questions including a very concerning issued currently being faced with the US market. Rob kindly agreed to connect the business with an expert in this field to investigate the issue and provide support to identify an effective solution.

To view Rob's presentation please click here

After the session, LBP encouraged businesses to stay and make the most of the networking opportunities.

LBP would like to thank Tim for arranging the UK Export Finance and DBT visit, along with Lisa and Rob for providing very useful information and their ongoing offer of support.

Businesses asked if LBP could provide an update export session once some of the questions raised have been answered, so please keep your eyes posted for news later in the year.

At the LBP AGM on Friday 9th February, we were joined by Tim Loughton MP and Great British Bake Off Star Baker, Janusz Domagala who kindly judged the LBP Charity Bake Off.

Tim's first task was to tuck his tie away to avoid trailing it into the bakes and then both judges expertly sliced the bakes and loaded their plates ready to sample each and every entry.

Commencing with the very impressive Kids entries, they sampled Teddy Bear Cookies through to Carrot and Courgette Flat Cake and were amazed with the hidden surprise in the Rainbow Smartie Cake. Finally selecting the following winners:

    Kids Category:

Winner - Tia-May age 14 yrs from Fizz Creations for her Bobble Hat Cake.

With the prize collected by Lawrence Boon MD of Fizz Creations

Runner-Up - Isla age 11yrs from Priavo Security for her Nutella Stuffed Cookies.

With Isla's proud Mum Michele Goering pictured with Janusz.

Then it was onto the Savory category with a variety of delicious bakes to sample including various favoured loafs, Sausage Pies and Chilli Con Carne Cake. Both Judges immediately agreed the following results:

    Savoury Category:

Winner - Andie & Emily from Auctioneer's Kitchen for their Black Pudding & Pork Scotch Eggs, with eggs cooked to perfection.

Michael Simmons from Shoreham Vehicle Auction collected their award from Janusz, but we later caught up with Andie & Emily to hear they will be opening to the general public from 1st March 2024.

Runner-Up - Andrew Goodchild from Paula Rosa Manhattan for his flavourful Chilli & Cheese Lactose Free Loaf.

Finally the judges moved onto the Sweet category which was full to the brim of amazing gateaux,  cup cakes and tray bakes. There was Red Velvet 20th Anniversary Cake from HR Smart, a Logo'd Fizz Creations spectacular and even a bouquet of cupcake flowers. What a difficult category to decide! The judges did their best to select from all types of cakes but were finally split between two entries:

    Sweet Category:

Winner - Marie MacBain from Paula Rosa Manhattan tipped the scales with her amazing showstopper Triple Chocolate/Vanilla Cake with Oreo Buttercream Filling.

Lee Golby collected the trophy from Janusz but we later caught up with Marie pictured above with Andrew.

    Runner-Up - Riina Mcloughlin from

Sussex Transport provided a perfectly baked Black Forest Gateau, merely pipped to the post by the complexity of Marie's showstopper.

When the judging was over we thanked our judges for their meticulous job and were assured dinner would now need to be a lite bite for both of them.

We would like to thank the AGM attendees who sampled the cakes and gave handsomely towards the pot. In total this event raised £540 for Electric Storm Youth and all leftover cakes were taken back to treat those attending Electric Storm Youth's youth event the following day.

    LBP would like to thank:

    • Tim Loughton and Janusz Domagala for judging
    • Sussex Transport and Little Concepts for supplying the baking trophies
    • Fizz Creations for providing gift bags to give to all the kids who entered
    • Everyone who entered for all their wonderful hard work
    • All donators.

It was an enjoyable day for a great cause as we say goodbye to Electric Storm Youth.

Ruhrpumpen are based on the junction of Commerce Way and Marlborough Road, where they have a fenced-off wood store on their forecourt which is filled on a regular basis. (pictured above)

To improve sustainability and reduce waste, Ruhrpumpen invite businesses and neighbours to help themselves to the wood within the fenced-off wood store.

Whilst helping yourself, please be mindful not to block Ruhrpumpen's access and please could you ensure the wood store is left tidy with the gate closed when you leave.

    Thank you.
