    Parliamentary Newsletter - November 2015

    Dear Constituent

Welcome to my penultimate constituency e-newsletter of the year. There is a lot of important stuff going on at Westminster at the moment, much of it dominated by the looming prospect of a vote on whether the UK should join our allies in air strikes over Syria. Having thought about this issue a lot, I have produced a short podcast on my view now as to why I intend to vote yes having not supported military action back in 2013. I have also produced a more lengthy podcast about the implications of last week’s Comprehensive Spending Review. There was some particularly welcome news about fairer funding for Sussex schools and protecting funding for the police. Whilst the Chancellor’s decision to scrap the controversial chances to tax credits have gone down well.

Whilst unemployment locally continues to fall and currently stands at around 1.3%, there was further unwelcome news from the banks where Lloyds has decided to abandon Broadwater hard on the heels of HSBC announcing the closure of its branch there too - so much for ‘the world’s local bank!’  EDF also announced that it is to merge its Broadwater office into Hove with the transfer of 450 employees but hopefully without any redundancies. Fortunately the flow of new businesses moving into East Worthing or the Lancing Business Park in particular has been very much the other way, especially those coming from Brighton & Hove.

As usual let me know what you would like to see in future issues and in the meantime I wish everyone well with their Christmas shopping where it looks like the so-called Black Friday is going to run right up to the Christmas sales!.

    Best wishes

    Tim Loughton MP
Member of Parliament for East Worthing & Shoreham

    Lancing Business Park Bake Off

The inaugural Lancing Business Park Bake Off was a huge success and seemed to be enjoyed by all, and well MC’d by our Chairman Mike Punter from Parafix. It will be back next year!

Big congratulations to all entrants, the standard was amazing with so many creative and fun cakes and especially from our winners:

    Savoury
    1 Pat – Active 4 Less
2 Caroline Saul – Fizz Creations
3 Steph Boelema – Cardens Accountants

    Sweet
1 Tessa Charles – - Bard-  Witches Cake
    2 Ryan Morlen - Pasante
3 Danielle Robertshaw – Bard Ltd

Master Baker – Pat – Active 4 Less

The main winner was of course Worthing Churches Homeless Project whom will receive a cheque on behalf of Lancing Business Park for £1000 (we raised £883 and this has been rounded up to £1000 by Pasante Healthcare) to go towards the great work they do helping get people back on track and offering shelter, support and assistance to those that need it most. They are the LBP chosen charity for 2015, and after dropping in the left over cakes to their shelter I can vouch first hand for the fabulous work that they do. See their website http://churchhousingtrust.org.uk/?gclid=CNfrnLjy8cgCFQblwgodgGINBg

I would like to thank our headline Sponsors EMC who were generous with their sponsorship and support and are keen to assist companies on our estate. A quick summary on their services below so please read. On a personal note they have been invaluable to us at Pasante.

I would also like to give thanks to our judges who kindly gave up their time,

Liz Kraftman from Kraftman Cakes – see http://www.kraftmancakes.co.uk/ - amazing cake expert, check out Liz’s gallery. She made my daughters 18th cake and it was a work of art and tasted even better than it looked. Highly recommended.

Steven Edwards – Masterchef Professional Winner and now runs his own high end brand Etch. See www.etchfood.co.uk and make sure you get along to one of their pop up restaurants, a great evening out. I can vouch after having been to about 5-6 of them, always very impressive nights out!

Tim Loughton MP – Our local MP, always supportive of local business and the community

Andrew Chapple – A top business advisor from EMC and sweet tooth!, see http://www.emcltd.co.uk/consultants/mark-chapple

A word about the Bake Offs Main Sponsors EMC:
EMC is a south coast based consultancy business. All our consultants are senior professionals with extensive hands-on experience of running both large and small businesses. We work across the main business disciplines – finance, sales, marketing, manufacturing and IT – to provide interim management (particularly finance directors), strategic planning, sales training, exporting, e-commerce, and general business advice to businesses of all sizes and across all sectors.

We have also helped scores of owners/directors plan and achieve successful business sales, acquisitions and mergers as well as raise capital, fund debts or restructure their finances.

Thanks to Iain, Toy, Gary and all at Manhattan & the Tuc Tuc for kindly accommodating us for the event.

Last thanks go to the Fizz Team who worked hard to make the event a success, that’s Jenny, Catherine & Caroline.

Tim Loughton Parliamentary Newsletter - October 2015

Welcome to the October 2015 edition of my constituency e-newsletter. As I predicted, the last few weeks, since Parliament returned, have been full of lively debates, none more so than the debate over reforms to tax credits. Not surprisingly, I have been extensively lobbied on the subject and you can find
my response on my website. We also had a rather frank debate on the so-called ‘tampon tax’ where a lot of people seem to have been in possession of only half the story so I have recorded a video podcast to explain what actually happened.

In the same vein, I have started a new series of regular podcasts on very topical issues given an instant viewpoint in just 2 minutes. You can find my ‘2 Minute Tim’ broadcasts, here:
    https://goo.gl/eB1DEy

Looking ahead, I have been chairing a working group that has been putting a lot of work into organising the formal Shoreham Air Crash Memorial Service at Lancing College Chapel. Given most of the places will be taken by families of the victims and members of the emergency services and first respondents, so it will not be possible to offer places to the public at large.

However BBC Radio Sussex will be broadcasting the service live, so people will be able to listen to the proceedings, and perhaps churches and other local groups will want to arrange events around the time of the service.

As always, I value your feedback on what you would like to see included in future issues.

    Best wishes

    Tim Loughton MP
Member of Parliament for East Worthing & Shoreham
