Parliamentary Newsletter - January 2014

Dear Constituents,

A belated Happy New Year and as if you needed reminding it is now fewer than 100 days until the General Election on May 7th. I am sure everyone will be bored rigid with politics well before then but I will do my best to keep it light and concentrate on constituency issues. Parliament will be formally ‘dissolved’ on March 30th at which point there are no MPs until after the election and Westminster offices will be closed. I will be publishing my contact details for the election period well before that and in the meantime my job, surgeries, correspondence etc. carry on as normal.

I have had large email ‘bags’ on two particular topical issues, namely fracking and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). I have given updates on both of these below with details of safeguards added to the Infrastructure Bill for example which amongst other things explicitly ban fracking in National Parks, which means the Downs are immune. I have also given a table of likely legislation still to go through Parliament before Dissolution so you can see what ‘contentious’ issues are yet to be addressed.

As usual do let me know if there are any other issues you would like me to cover in future.

Kind regards,

Tim Loughton MP
