West Sussex Research Group unveils plans for Scar Biobank

The ‘Scar Study’ is a collaboration between Blond McIndoe Research Foundation, The Queen Victoria Hospital and Horder HealthCare.  All three organisations are based on the East Grinstead campus and share a collective aspiration to deliver patient-oriented innovations.

The aim of the Scar Study is to develop a scar tissue biobank which will assist research in understanding processes and therapies that lead to scar-free healing.  The potential to reduce the impact of scarring on the patient exists through the development of novel materials, cell therapies and medicines. In order to understand how these therapies should be developed, a better understanding of the molecules and proteins (biomarkers) involved in scarring is necessary. Knowing the involvement of these biomarkers in scarring will enable innovative approaches to be harnessed, perhaps enhancing the body’s own regenerative processes to promote scar-free healing.

If you would like to understand more about the study or would like to be involved as a sponsor, please get in touch with CEO, Maxine Smeaton maxine.smeaton@blondmcindoe.org or telephone her on 01342 414295.

Are you interested in accessing 3,000 potential candidates for as little as £200?

On November 2nd the Universities of Brighton and Sussex will jointly host a careers fair at the Amex Community Stadium. The Careers Fair will be an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of your organisation with students and graduates from Brighton, Sussex and the wider higher education pool. Expressions of Interest (EOI) are invited from Small and Medium (SME) sized businesses that are looking to expand and to create new jobs but not finding it easy to source the finance required.

Grants of up to 40% of a total project cost can be provided to applicants that meet the eligibility criteria, are located within the Coast to Capital Region and can demonstrate how the investment will lead to job creation and growth.

Applications from all sectors are welcome but the programme particularly would like to see applications from companies in the following sectors, which have been identified as key sectors for the Coast to Capital region :
    Advanced Engineering
    Manufacturing
    Environmental Technologies, Goods and Services
    Creative, Digital and IT
Healthcare, Medical Technology and Life Sciences
We are inviting start-ups, existing businesses and social enterprises to apply. The proposed new activity must be additional to existing business activity. Businesses must be able to incur the total project costs in full by 31 March 2017 and the grant may only be used for capital items.

Applications for Expressions of Interest are now open and will remain open until 12 noon on 15 October 2016 or until the amount of funding available is awarded, whichever is the earliest.

This programme will only fund new activity and therefore retrospective costs are not eligible. For the purpose of this programme new activity is defined as that happening after the EOI has been approved and this has been communicated to the applicant.

    Degree Apprenticeship Information Event
    Wednesday 28 September 08.00 - 10.00

There's lot of information about degree apprenticeships out there. Our Degree Apprenticeships Information Event will help you get straight to the point.

We are delighted to invite you to our event in the Dome, Bognor Regis campus on Wednesday 28 September from 8.00 - 10.00. A complimentary light breakfast will be provided.

Degree Apprenticeships are a new initiative introduced by the government which enables students to combine work and study. At Chichester, the apprentice works for four days a week and studies for a degree on one day a week.

The aim is to ensure that students graduate with the experience employers need, now and in the future, by providing them with a balance of academic learning and on-the-job practical training.

This can give you the opportunity to develop the talent to fulfill your business ambitions and our new Degree Apprenticeship will give you the added ability to shape their training to meet your individual professional needs, as you spend time ensuring that you recruit the right person to your team

A brief presentation describing the Degree Apprenticeship programme will take place as well as a short talk from Simon Pringle of Red Rover Software, who will be able to provide the employer perspective.

    Does your Business have Credibility?

Your Business Email Address is More Important Than You Think

You may wish to stop using free email addresses

    WHY?

There are several reasons why it might be a very good idea to stop using free email addresses for your business.

Using free email addresses, such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Live, mypostoffice, etc., etc. might position your business as spam and give potential customers the view that your business is not properly established or credible.

Think about what you would think, if you received an email from a company with which you intend to place hundreds or even thousands of £s worth of business. How would you view that business?

Think of the better known companies. Are there any that use free email addresses to communicate?

The reason why most of them don’t is because having a professional email address helps businesses have a professional outlook.

Many businesses also block free email accounts to prevent viruses and spam. And, one of the most important aspects of having a credible email address is - that people can receive and read the emails you send. Having a credible email account reduces your risk and lowers your cost as a good business, since the goal is to have customers and prospects read your emails, communicate with you and purchase.

So - why does your small business needs its own email address?

If you have a domain name and a website for your company you should consider a professional email address. It helps you create a professional image and boosts your business’ credibility.
We can help you to set up a hosted mailbox including aliases for as little as £6.00 +VAT per month. We can even connect it to your mobile devices, so you know what is happening whenever and wherever and on whichever device you are using.

Another further important reason for setting up bespoke email addresses for your business is the flexibility it gives you. For instance, when selecting your email address, you can select email aliases for various departments such as support@your domain name or info@your domain name.
This provides more clarity to your customers, when they communicate with you as opposed to routing all communications to one free email address. Email aliases will also direct to one inbox so that you can read and reply to all emails through the appropriate alias as well as categorize inquiries.

It is also worth pointing out that free email addresses, such as mentioned above, are not protected by the Anti-Spam law and you might find yourself with an Inbox full of spam mail. Generic mail addresses, such as info@ and mail @ are not protected either. However, they are useful to have on the website to protect your personal email address from being spammed or worse, it being used for scams and possible hacking attacks.

Having your own bespoke email address for your company is important as it makes you and your business more memorable in your customers’ inbox. It helps to build your brand.
Imagine your customers getting an email from
tim6987@yahoo. com instead of tim@domain name.Which email do you think they are most likely to open and respond to?

Build your customers confidence in doing business
    with a credible company!

How do you get a bespoke email address?

If you already have a domain name, then it is very easy.

You subscribe to a Hosted Exchange mailbox, which is available from as little as £6.00 +VAT per month. It can then be configured so all your, as well as the alias mail addresses, are routed to your mail program on your laptop or computer. A Hosted Exchange mailbox should preferably be hosted in the UK to ensure absolute compliance with Data Protection Laws and ensure safety with respect to hacking.

As your company grows and a new employee joins your business - you can easily add get additional mailboxes set up.

Northstar IT provides Hosted Exchange mailboxes to its many customers - giving them the professional image they need to sustain and grow their businesses. Give us a call - it does not take long to provide you with this service!

Who can Move a Shipping Container ?
    It’s a ‘No-Brainer’ – Call 0800 915 23 23

Shipping container movements are something Sussex Transport do really well – we do lots of movements on a daily basis. We have the HIAB and flatbed capacity to move shipping containers / cabins at your request… including double stacking and adding the staircases where necessary.

All of our drivers and operators are skilled, regularly trained and refreshed in necessary health and safety standards and required qualifications.

Here are some little known facts about shipping containers!…
    1.            There are currently over 17 million shipping containers in circulation globally
    2.            The first metal shipping container was invented by Malcolm McLean in 1956
    3.            Approximately 97% of all shipping containers are manufactured in China. This is due to a lower labour rate in the country and that much of the world’s products are produced in China.
    4.            Approximately 675 shipping containers are lost at sea every single year!!
    5.            It is estimated that there were more than 530 million containers in the world in 2010.
    6.            If shipping containers are taken care of with regular maintenance, they can last for a total of 20 years.
    7.            95% of the world’s cargo moves by ship. Due to higher costs, it still makes more financial sense to transport goods in high volume ships.
    8.            A standard container can hold around 3,500 shoe boxes!

And when a shipping container has finished being a shipping container – its can be transformed beyond your wildest imagination – check out this link to see some awesome make overs!

Need a container moved? Call the team on 0800 915 23 23 or email info@sussextransport.com  We can easily cover the South East of England, London and further afield!
