Coastal West Sussex NEWS - Summer 2015

What's been happening across Coastal West Sussex... Welcome to the summer edition of the Coastal West Sussex (CWS) Partnership newsletter which keeps you up-to-date with our news and also provides information about business opportunities that may be of interest to you.

CWS Recognised as Coastal Community Team

    Helping to grow the economy

The CWS Partnership has been recognised as a Coastal Community Team by the Department for Communities and Local Government. Earlier this month Coastal Communities Minister Mark Francois gave his support to CWS and more than 100 other new teams that will help revive England’s seaside towns and decide where investment goes.

CWS will receive £10,000 of government funding to invest in our local seaside towns. The partnership will be able to use the funding to help bring jobs, growth and prosperity to our beach towns. For the full story, please follow this link.

    Business Growth Grants

Is your business eligible for a grant of £15,000 - £100,000?

Businesses in CWS could be eligible for substantial funding thanks to a Business Grants programme launched by Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership and West Sussex County Council.

It is hoped that small and medium sized businesses looking to expand and create new jobs, but not finding it easy to find the finance, will apply.  Start-ups, existing businesses and social enterprises are being encouraged to express interest in the programme before the deadline of 15th September 2015.

    The Rewards of Efficiency

At Tenkay we work hard to drive efficiencies in our manufacturing processes to provide our customers with the best possible quality, service and price.

    Here’s how we do it:

    1. Breaking jobs down to sub-assemblies

We assess each of our customers’ products on a case by case basis to establish the best build process. Usually, the most efficient way is to break the product build down into sub-assemblies. This can lead to better engineering and allows us to maximise machining and shop floor capabilities, resulting in more flexibility around tight lead times. It also means that quality can be monitored at each stage to ensure the final product is right first time.

    2. Monitoring build efficiencies

We continually monitor product builds for any variation in quality or efficiency. If a variation occurs, we…

Adur & Worthing Council Economic Development are working to alleviate the van congestion and parking issues, currently being experienced outside the Graham Woods site in Chartwell Road. The increased activity in this area is expected to last for the next 6 months and therefore operational changes are being implemented and a temporary parking/holding area is currently being looked at, to help address these issues.

    Parliamentary Newsletter - May 2015

    Dear Residents,

I am delighted to have been re-elected as the MP for East Worthing & Shoreham at the General Election on May 7th. The full results are given below and I am particularly honoured to have received the highest share of the vote since the constituency was formed in 1997. Thank you to everyone for your support.

As always it is my intention to repay that trust by continuing to focus on the issues that matter to people most in our constituency and by providing a strong voice for Sussex people in Parliament. Top of the list of local issues will of course be seeing through the improvements to the A27 and this was a hot topic during the election campaign with the suggestion that an alternative government might delay the scheme. I will also continue to fight to make sure that our popular Worthing Hospital remains one of the best and safest in the country able to look after the growing demands of our growing population. Another priority will be to continue to fight against inappropriate and excessive development on some of our sensitive remaining areas of open space and on Worthing seafront, and for long overdue regeneration in Southwick and Lancing centres in particular.

In Parliament one of the most important pledges of the new Government was to deliver an In/Out referendum on our future membership of the EU and I look forward to delivering on that pledge and provoking a lively debate on the merits of the options facing us.

Above all I want to remain an MP deeply engaged in the community accessible to local people. The day after the election result I resumed my latest street surgery in a very wet Shoreham Farmer's Market and I will post details of our regular round of street surgeries on my website and in this monthly email as usual. Please remember that I am here for all my constituents however you voted or whether you are too young to vote. If you think I can help then it is easy to contact me and I will be delighted to hear from you.

The new Government will lay out what it wants to do in the coming Parliamentary year at the Queen's Speech on Wednesday 27th May and I will include a report in next month's newsletter.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

Workplace Health Week launching today (18th May)

This week we are proud to be hosting our very first Workplace Health Week. A week dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of adding a bit of activity in and around your working day.

Sign in to your Workplace Challenge profile and check out the events section to see some of the great activities taking place throughout the week.

Below are just three simple ways you can get involved in Workplace Health Week.

    1. Midday Mile

    Midday Mile - get involved

This Wednesday 20th May at 12noon, businesses across the country are being invited to walk, jog, cycle, run or even kayak one mile for the first national Workplace Challenge Midday Mile.

A fantastic opportunity to not only rally the troops in the office to get up off their swivel chairs and stretch their legs, but also an opportunity to support our charity partner, the British Heart Foundation.

Here are five ways you can make the most of the Midday Mile.

    2. Get your boss on board

    Take the pledge

All throughout Workplace Health Week we're urging your employer's to make a commitment to taking Workplace Health seriously. Ask you boss to get on board by signing up to Workplace Challenge and taking our Workplace Health Pledge.

    3. Make your personal pledge to workplace health & inspire others!

    Make your personal pledge

Make your own personal pledge to look after your workplace health – what small change can you make to add activity in and around your working day? Perhaps take the stairs instead of the lift, join a local netball league or perhaps beat the boss on the boardroom table at instant ping (table tennis).

Download your personal pledge card, write down what you're planning to do, then share your pledge onto our Facebook page or tweet us via @WorkplaceChall using #WorkHealth2015. Your pledge might inspire others to take the step to get more active, research has shown that we are more likely to be active if it is seen as 'normal' and if our friends and peers are active too!

    Keep it social

We look forward to following you on your journey towards a more active lifestyle, share your story with us:

Tweet us @WorkplaceChall or become a fan on Facebook.
