Sir Robert Woodard Academy - Break the Glass Ceiling’ Day
    26th January

Have you done something in your career that is awe-inspiring? Could you motivate the next generation?

If so please contact, Mrs Anne Morley, Careers Mentor at the Academy about speaking to students at our forthcoming ‘Break the Glass Ceiling’ inspirational day. We are looking for charismatic speakers who are going to inspire and motivate students to achieve their full potential, in whatever path they choose to follow after leaving the Academy.

We have already booked someone who has led expeditions on Mount Everest, the owner/inventor of a self-made company, and someone who is retraining as a midwife after spending a number of years bringing up her family.

We are interested to hear from people from all walks of life, and with different educational experiences.

Worthing Churches Homeless Project Annual Sleepout

    Saturday 30th January in Worthing
Spend one night outside to help bring someone else in the warm

    Or

    Saturday 27th February in Littlehampton
Our second Sleepout event in Littlehampton – now two chances to take part!

Sure, it’s uncomfortable and you might get cold and wet – but what difference could you make just by taking part for one night? It’s not just the fundraising, although that is a huge, huge help, but the people you talk to about your experience afterwards! It’s the stereotypes you can help us to challenge. It’s the talking to your children, your friends, your family about the realities of homelessness and gaining a greater understanding of what it might be like. If you have done it before, we’d love to see you again if you haven’t come along before – what’s stopping you?

Click download the Worthing registration form and Littlehampton registration form to register for the events. Sign up today and help us change someone’s life. Because that is the reality – to keep our vital services running costs £1.9million a year. In the last year our fantastic project workers have supported over 1400 people with anything from advice about homelessness, keeping tenancies or receiving support through the Local Assistance Network to providing cooked breakfast, key-working and counselling support and securing long term accommodation. We can only continue to do this with your help.

    What’s 1 night in 365?
It’s been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs but I’m definitely getting there and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at WCHP from the staff at St Clare’s and the Recovery Project to everyone at the Short Term Assessment Hostel and the Stepping Stones Project for all their support. Also a big thank you to Health Central for helping me get through it all. If it wasn’t for all those different people I don’t think I would have made it. Every single person helped me. My keyworker, Pete, was fantastic and got me through it big time. My keyworker, Sue, at CRI was great. People just put up with my moods and just listened to me. There are so many people that need thanking but there’s not enough paper in the world for me to do that.
Thanks again to you all from the bottom of my heart.Jason, a client now living in his own accommodation.

Can you help us this year?  Together we can make a difference

Employers for Carers, which is a new service – funded by West Sussex County Council – and offered free to small and medium sized businesses in West Sussex.

Employers for Carers is a free membership forum which provides practical help for SME employers, and helps local employers support and retain staff who are looking after older, disabled or seriously ill family members or friends.

The purpose of supporting the scheme is to:

    -       raise the profile of working carers across the county

    -       help local employers identify and support carers in their workforce

    -       signpost carers to sources of both workplace and external support.

Our website www.employersforcarers.org allows you to register online (using a unique membership code).  Once you have registered online, you gain the following benefits:

    -       Access to website resources including employer, manager and employee resources

    -       Latest information and guidance around work, caring and ageing

    -       Option to join Carers UK (free online membership) for all staff

    -       Invitation to a networking event

Sarah Cutler is happy to meet with individual employers to present the service and to help them sign up if required.

    Parliamentary Newsletter - November 2015

    Dear Constituent

Welcome to my penultimate constituency e-newsletter of the year. There is a lot of important stuff going on at Westminster at the moment, much of it dominated by the looming prospect of a vote on whether the UK should join our allies in air strikes over Syria. Having thought about this issue a lot, I have produced a short podcast on my view now as to why I intend to vote yes having not supported military action back in 2013. I have also produced a more lengthy podcast about the implications of last week’s Comprehensive Spending Review. There was some particularly welcome news about fairer funding for Sussex schools and protecting funding for the police. Whilst the Chancellor’s decision to scrap the controversial chances to tax credits have gone down well.

Whilst unemployment locally continues to fall and currently stands at around 1.3%, there was further unwelcome news from the banks where Lloyds has decided to abandon Broadwater hard on the heels of HSBC announcing the closure of its branch there too - so much for ‘the world’s local bank!’  EDF also announced that it is to merge its Broadwater office into Hove with the transfer of 450 employees but hopefully without any redundancies. Fortunately the flow of new businesses moving into East Worthing or the Lancing Business Park in particular has been very much the other way, especially those coming from Brighton & Hove.

As usual let me know what you would like to see in future issues and in the meantime I wish everyone well with their Christmas shopping where it looks like the so-called Black Friday is going to run right up to the Christmas sales!.

    Best wishes

    Tim Loughton MP
Member of Parliament for East Worthing & Shoreham
